I would have to agree with this ad that a man is only half of a man if he does not respect women. And yet, in our society, men are still not chastised for treating women badly! Of course society is not cool with beating on women, but men who put women down, call them "bitches" or "just holes" are not punished for saying that! So, in essence, yes you are only half of a man when you do not respect women, but society does not recognize this and thus you are still a full man when you put women down. Men are taught to be dominant and when they put women down then they are asserting their dominance, and it seems like a "normal" thing to do. I guess it is just simply due to the power relations that men and women have; men want to be dominant and they know that they can put down women in order to "prove" their dominance. And also that they're a douche-bag...
It's great to see this after hearing about the Delhi bus rapes. There are so many people acting to do good work and to improve the situations of all people to open up a world full of equality. The more people who join in and get educated on the issues, the more that reason will prevail and deplorable treatment towards women will become a thing of the past.
