What the literal fuck.

The Republican party on rape.

  1. I couldn't get the picture to work with the text, so here's my thoughts. I hope this remains somewhat confidential, but whatever. I was raped freshman year, and I thought I'd gotten pregnant from it. I, being a poor freshman, knew I didn't have money for an abortion, and although I knew who raped me I didn't know how to contact him. My mom, one of my best friends, falls into the 'Gift from God' section. I went into a deep depression, and much later told her that if I had gotten pregnant and couldn't get an abortion I would've killed myself. I know for a fact I'm not the only one who has felt this way, that while a baby is a miracle, the terrible situation prevents joy.

Another thing that worries me is back alley abortions. Just because something's illegal, doesn't mean it's immoral nor does it mean people won't do it. Women have had unsafe, painful abortions for all of time. Men can try and legislate my uterus, but my uterus will do what it pleases and I will do what I please with it.

  2. Wow...this was a very interesting post! The one thing that I always have an issue with is why are MEN commenting on a subject that deals with a vagina and a uterus...when they do not have them!!! I don't pretend to know what men should do with their penises, so why are they always telling me what to do with my vagina?!

Also, I think that SOME of these quotes can be misinterpreted. I'm not defending those who said them, because what they said is not cool, but I think that a lot of them meant that life (aka- a baby) is a gift from God, not that God intends for rape to happen (or wants it to happen). But I have to agree with Katherine that having a baby from a rape is probably not the happiest of occasions.

I just still have a problem with men making decisions and commenting on issues that really only concern women. Things such as rape, abortion, birth control, women's reproductive health....why do men even care about these things &/or why do they want to make decisions about them? Could someone enlighten me?

  3. I have to agree with Andrea on this one, it is not right for men to be commenting and making decisions on issues that only deal with women and our bodies. I would also like to know why men even care about things that only deal with women. It's not their place to comment and make decisions on things that have nothing to do with them. Women should be the only one's with the decisions on rape and birth control. And like Andrea, I would like to be enlightened on mens views of why they should make decisions.
